The big Grand Prix and finale of the show was on Sunday.

I spent the morning wandering around the show. There are maybe 8 rings going, all sand except the International Ring. The are all good sized and well equipped. |

| The above picture is a panorama, assembled from 8 different pictures. The rings on either side were used for jumpers, the middle ring is for warm up. | |

I didn't take many pictures of the Grand Prix. This is actually one of
the 6 riders out of 50 who made it to the jump-off.
Jump 4, seen here, was a triple combination in the first round. It caused a few rails for the first 15 or so riders, then there were maybe 5 spectacular crashes in a row. After that, it caused many many rails, refusals, and voluntary withdrawals. I'm not sure why it was such a difficult combination. It's possible the footing was funny in front of the first jump, or maybe it was an issue of lighting. Or maybe it was just a big, tough combination. Ramio Quintana from Argentina won the Grand Prix. The Argentineans also placed third in the Nations Cup; a good weekend. |

This was taken at Player's, a
nightclub close to the show and apparently a traditional post-show gathering
place. That's me in the middle with Jennifer's groom Emily on the left and
her nanny Maria on the right. Private note to my wife, mom, Maria's husband, and Emily's boyfriend: despite appearances, I am not enjoying myself in this picture. Also, for those who know me, you'll notice I shaved my beard. There are no beards allowed on FedEx planes. At first I thought that was a joke, but they claim it interferes with the use of oxygen masks in case of an emergency. |
